Module Seven Video Review

1. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.
There were a lot of key concepts that i learned in both videos. In the video called "Classical Architecture," I learned a great deal about classical form of architecture. Something that i found very interesting about this video was learning about English terraces. This is a interesting and funny concept because we all want to live in a palace. What the English terrace did was allow low income people to live on a palace. English terrace, are public buildings that use classical architecture. They look like classical English palaces. However, they are divided into small sections of living. Where, different families can live in a 17 foot 6 inches home. This brings people that are not rich the opportunity to live in a palace like building. Something else that was important that I learned was the arches. I learned that it was the ancient Romans that started to incorporating arches on their structures. This being a concept that the ancient Greeks did not have. In the other video I learned a lot about prairie style architecture. I learned that it was Frank Lloyd Wright that created the prairie style. Frank Lloyd Wright deviated from classical forms of architecture and redesigned the future of modern architecture. Frank Lloyd Wright, prairie style architecture consisted of floating horizontal planes and organic relationships to the nature around its structures. His structures blended in with the nature in order to makes the buildings a part emerging from nature. A difference between his buildings and classical buildings is that his buildings, the rooms emerge into one another. They are not segregated. Living space in open and the door is not straight in the middle but on the sides.

2. How do the videos relate to the readings in the text?

The videos were very helpful because they were not only directly connected to the text but gave us visual examples of what we previously learned. In the readings we learned about architectures like classical and moderns. I understood most of the readings. However, watching the videos gave me a better understanding of the architecture because we saw a moving image of the structures. I understood the concepts more after watching these two videos.

3. What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of Architecture?

I have different opinions of the films. The first film I watched, "Prairie Style," I was not so excited to watch. The reason I picked it was because it was short. However, after watching it I found out that it was very interesting. I have always been fascinated with classical architecture so it was surprising to find out that prairie style was good too. It was a different approached to building living spaces and structures. The video did a good job in presenting the beauty of prairie style architecture. The video was very upbeat and kept me learning. On the other hand, the second video was a disappointment because I was a fan of classical style. I know that classical style is a little more boring the modern style. Moreover, the video just made it boring and had me zone out of watching. It was only in certain places where I was interesting.

4. From the group of four that you had a choice: Why did you choose that film?

the reason I choose the Prairie Style video was because it sounded interesting. It was something that I had not heard very much of and that i wanted to look at. This video was very short and to the point. The reason i was very excited and picked Classical Architecture was because I love classical buildings. They remind me of Greek mythology. However, the video was about England incorporating classical architecture and that bored me a little.
